Signature, Inc.’s Advice for Career Growth

Signature, Inc.’s leaders coach their people to assist them in cultivating the skills and attitudes they require to continually advance their careers. Obviously, an associate has to be a top performer, but there’s more to it than that. In order to progress, you have to be more than just a technician who shows up on time and completes the required work. That might identify you as a good employee, but it doesn’t make you an excellent candidate for promotion.
At Signature, Inc. we encourage associates who want to accelerate their career growth to go beyond their present job descriptions. Think about it – no matter your position or employer, your boss doesn’t do exactly what you do. He shoulders additional roles and responsibilities. If you aspire to assume his job, or move into a parallel role, you need to clearly demonstrate that you are capable of growing beyond your current scope.
There are a lot of ways you might accomplish this, but Signature, Inc. executives suggest the best is just doing more. Chances are that your company has dozens of projects or tasks that are being handled at somewhat less than 100 percent. Ask about them or, better yet, find something important that’s lying fallow and request to be assigned to handle it. Your boss will see you taking the initiative and, assuming you do a great job, you’ll receive recognition for your success.
